Green Hornet Movie In 2010

The Green Hornet is green indeed! The Green Hornet was created by Fran Striker for an American old-time radio program in the 1930's. In the following decades the radio show spawned into other media, including film serials, comic books and, more famously into a TV show starring Bruce Lee as Kato, the Green Hornet's sidekick, in the 1960's.

Let's watch the opening of the 1960's Gren Hornet TV show to better remember the hero:

The Green Hornet is a fair-to-above average hand-to-hand combatant who fights against crime. During the day the Hornet is Britt Reid, a newspaper publisher by day. But the journalist reveals to be a vigilante by night. In his fight against crime the Green Hornet is helped by his manservant Kato who is a martial-art expert. The pair drives around in a car equipped with advanced technology, called 'Black Beauty'.

The TV show was not that great but still deserves some respect. I am glad that a feature film is under work with the script being written by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen (which is fine).

But I was almost shocked when I heard that Seth Rogen is running for the lead role of the Green Hornet! What the heck? i really can't imagine this big fat pro-weed boy interpreting the role of the Green Hornet... I am afraid they are actually making some stupid spoof comedy...

Here's what Seth Rogen recently said about the Green Hornet:

Seth Rogen why don't you stay away from the Green Hornet for God's sake?"To us, it was just this funny notion that, when you say Green Hornet to someone, the first thing they say is, 'Hey, Bruce Lee played Kato in that show.' We really wanted to make this hero-sidekick movie. ... For years we'd really been trying to write a movie that was kind of about a hero and his sidekick. When we heard the Green Hornet movie was up for grabs, we thought that could be the perfect way to do this story, because he is the only hero whose sidekick is more known than he is. We thought it would be a good way to tell this relationship story and just do a big crazy action movie."

Honestly I can be but pessimistic concerning this Green Hornet movie by now... I would be more than happy to be proved wrong, but I think this film will just be utter crap...

The Green Hornet movie is scheduled for a release in June 2010. May God help Seth Rogen to make a miracle! Only a divine intervention may save the Green Hornet!

I'm agreeing with you here.

I've been a fan of the Green Hornet all my life - radio shows and comics an' all - and yes, I'd say the sidekick was more famous than the Green Hornet, but only because the focus was always on the sidekick being Bruce Lee as opposed to the actual stories. It was still called the 'Green Hornet', NOT 'Bruce Lee as Kato and the Green Hornet'.

I'm being picky. I apologise.

When I heard Seth Rogan had stolen my idea - I contemplated writing the movie script for fun last year and did a little research into the owners of the rights - I have to admit all I could think was 'oh my god, the Green Hornet movie will be a travesty'. Still, I'm looking forward to it, and I'm *hoping* Britt turns out to be the way he should be - tall, slim, dashing, and a really bad fighter. (He wouldn't have survived long as the Green Hornet without Kato, I'm afraid... Not with his Hornet Sting and his inability to sit in the front seat of a car...)

Then again, I'm also looking forward to the release of Britt's great uncle Johnny Reid's movie, the Lone Ranger! Though I'm a little thrown by Johnny Depp being Tonto...

Hate to break this to you, but Seth Rogan says this movie will be a comedy.

I was shock like you all,and agreeing to a point. My grandfather was in the orignal green hornet, and Lone Ranger. and growing up,with all that info, and listinning to all the old radio, and not to mention the tv show. its hard to picture seath rogan, then agian, he did worote superbad, and can write seirous stuff. So, part my famielys legacy, feels liek its kinda on the line, i eprsonally thigk anyone, can do the green hornet justice, just Rogan!? well We should give it a chance!

I can only foresee utter disaster for this film. People only tune into the older episodes because of Bruce Lee, and unfortunately White Hollywood producers and actors are STILL lightyears away from giving Kato, who will inevitably be played by an Asian actor, the lead or even an equivalent role to Seth Rogan. So little has changed for Asian American actors since Bruce's time.

I hope they don't make this into a comedy like they did starsky and hutch. hope they keep it like the tv version.

I have also been a fan of the Green Hornet and Bruce Lee since a small child. I am disappointed about what I've seen and read about this project. You mean to tell me the powers that have this license could'nt find more serious talent. Come on!! This sounds like CRAP!!!!!! These characters deserve better.

Met Van Williams in 1970 while he was running Interstate Radio of Burbank. He signed a Green Hornet paperback and Green Hornet photo. Still have both.
